Rights & permissions for content

Full details on the terms of the open access license, including for supplementary materials and publication extenders, are included in the Open Access License Form, available in the Author Form Package here.

Articles in Becaris journals are published under a Creative Commons CC BY-NC-ND license as standard, which allows dissemination on an open access basis, but does not permit commercial exploitation or the creation of derivative works without permission. Anyone is free to:

  • Share – copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format

Under the following terms:

  • Attribution – anyone reusing an article, or unadapted content from an article, must give appropriate credit to the original article, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use. We recommend that you include the article title, author, journal name, and license and indicate how the article has been used (for example reproduced or adapted from).
  • NonCommercial – the material being reused cannot and must not be used for commercial purposes.
  • NoDerivatives – the material being reused cannot be adapted; if you remix, transform, or build upon the material, you may not distribute the modified material.

When required by an author’s funder (see Compliance with funder open or public access policies), or at the author's request, articles may be published under a Creative Commons CC BY license. For these articles, the terms of this license apply. Please note, for contributions where the use of a CC-BY license is preferred but not mandated by the authors’ funding body, additional fees will apply as detailed in the open access license agreement form (available here).

Please contact [email protected] to request permissions outside of these circumstances.

Rights & permissions for JCER content published before 2023

On 1 January 2023, the Journal of Comparative Effectiveness Research (JCER) flipped from a hybrid (open access option/subscription) publishing model to full and immediate open access journal. All articles published in JCER from that date (Volume 12, Issue 1) follow the terms of their relevant open access license. All articles published before 31 December 2022 (Volume 11, Issue 18) in the hybrid model are now freely available to read, with no gating and readers can access all articles without having to go through a paywall. For articles published open access pre-2023 under a hybrid model (CC BY-NC-ND license by default, and CC BY where required), permissions rules are as stated above.

For content previously only accessible behind a paywall, copyright is retained by the Publisher, so any permissions requests will need to be dealt with accordingly. For this copyrighted content, to request permission for any use please visit the Copyright Clearance Center Marketplace or PLSclear.

Reprints

For articles published under a Creative Commons open access license, authors are permitted to reprint and distribute their article provided it is not for commercial use. For all other articles, authors wishing to distribute copies of their article should contact [email protected].
