Journals from Becaris Publishing Ltd are fully open access. All content is freely available without charge to the user or his/her institution. In accordance with the BOAI definition of open access, users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author for non-commercial activities. See our Rights & Permissions page for more details regarding commercial reuse.

Accepted articles are published following payment of an open access article processing charge (APC). All articles are subject to our standard peer-review process and will be accepted or rejected based on their own merit.

Journal publication history

Journal of Comparative Effectiveness Research (JCER)

From journal launch in January 2012 until December 2022 (Volume 1, Issue 1 to Volume 11, Issue 18), JCER was published under a hybrid model, with articles published behind a subscription paywall as standard unless authors selected optional open access publication (with an associated APC).

Since January 2023 (Volume 12, Issue 1), the journal publishes under a fully open access model.

Archive content

Archive materials (published in Volume 1, Issue 1 to Volume 11, Issue 18) that were previously behind a subscription paywall are now free to access.

Archive materials (published in Volume 1, Issue 1 to Volume 11, Issue 18) that were previously published open access remain as such, under the originally agreed open access license.

Reuse of archive content

Please visit the 'Rights & Permissions' page for further information.

Journal of Patient Centricity (JPC)

The journal has published under a fully open access model since launch in 2026 (Volume 1, Issue 1).

Open access license

Full details on the terms of the open access license, including for supplementary materials and publication extenders, are included in the Open Access License Form, available in the Author Form Package here.

Articles in Becaris journals are published under a Creative Commons CC BY-NC-ND license as standard, which allows dissemination on an open access basis, but does not permit commercial exploitation or the creation of derivative works without permission. Anyone is free to:

  • Share – copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format

Under the following terms:

  • Attribution – anyone reusing an article, or unadapted content from an article, must give appropriate credit to the original article, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use. We recommend that you include the article title, author, journal name, and license and indicate how the article has been used (for example reproduced or adapted from).
  • NonCommercial – the material being reused cannot and must not be used for commercial purposes.
  • NoDerivatives – the material being reused cannot be adapted; if you remix, transform, or build upon the material, you may not distribute the modified material.

Under certain circumstances, for example, when required by an author’s funder (see Compliance with funder open or public access policies), certain articles may be published under a Creative Commons CC BY license. For these articles, the terms of this license apply.

Where a CC-BY license is preferred but not mandated, please indicate this on the Open Access License Form (additional fees will apply, as noted here). For any queries, please contact the Journal Editor.

Commercial use

Use of articles published under a CC BY-NC-ND license for commercial purposes is not permitted. However, rights are available to third parties subject to the appropriate permission fees (please contact the Journal Editor if this is of interest).

Commercial purposes include:

  • Copying or downloading of articles, or linking to such articles for further redistribution, sale or licensing
  • Copying, downloading or posting by a site or service that incorporates advertising with such content
  • The inclusion or incorporation of article content in other works or services (other than normal quotations with an appropriate citation) that is then available for sale or licensing, for a fee (for example, a compilation produced for marketing purposes, inclusion in a sales pack)
  • Use of article content (other than normal quotations with appropriate citation) by for-profit organizations for promotional purposes
  • Linking to article content in e-mails redistributed for promotional, marketing or educational purposes
  • Use for the purposes of monetary reward by means of sale, resale, license, loan, transfer or other form of commercial exploitation such as marketing products
  • The reproduction of the article in whole in paper format, e.g., reprints

Article processing charge

All Becaris journal articles are published open access and require the payment of the APC on acceptance for publication. All articles are subject to our standard peer-review process and will be accepted or rejected based on their own merit. APC depends on journal and article type, and can be viewed here for the Journal of Comparative Effectiveness Research and here for the Journal of Patient Centricity.

The APC should be paid within 30 days by the author or other funding body. The source of funding for open access fees should be included in the Financial & Competing Interests Disclosure statement.

Becaris Publishing uses a third-party payment system, managed by SciPris. Authors will receive an email at acceptance detailing how to pay their fees. Authors should follow the instructions in the email and on SciPris or forward the email to the individual responsible for payment of the fee to complete.
