Flatiron Health has appointed Nathan Hubbard as CEO, succeeding Carolyn Starrett following a period of significant growth, international expansion, and advancements in real-world oncology data under her leadership.

Hubbard assumes the role after 5 years with the company, during which he contributed to its international operations and external collaborations. He brings over 20 years of experience across the biopharma, healthcare, and data sectors, with a focus on commercial strategy, operational development, and cross-functional coordination.

I’m honored to step into this role,” said Hubbard. “With deep roots in biopharma, life sciences, and technology, I understand the critical role Flatiron plays in accelerating cancer research and improving care. I’m committed to building on the strong foundation Carolyn and the team have created and ensuring continuity as we continue delivering meaningful impact for patients, partners, and the oncology community.”

His promotion follows a period of significant growth and transformation under Starrett’s leadership. Since becoming CEO in 2021, Starrett oversaw the expansion of Flatiron Horizon, the company’s real-world data (RWD) platform, from 400,000 to over 5.5 million patients.

It’s been the honor of my career to lead Flatiron over the last four and a half years,” said Starrett. “We’ve never been in a stronger position, and I’m confident the company will move even faster toward its full potential with Nathan at the helm. Over his 5 year tenure at Flatiron, Nathan has built our international business and presence from the ground up, expanded and deepened our partnerships with leading biopharma companies and played a critical role in shaping our strategic vision.”

During her time at Flatiron, Starrett also led the growth of OncoEMR®, the company’s oncology-specific electronic health record (EHR) system, which now supports more than 4500 providers across the US. She also guided the development of Flatiron’s RWD, which has contributed to more than 1800 peer-reviewed publications.

As part of the leadership transition, Roche, Flatiron’s parent company, voiced its support for the new appointment:

Flatiron plays an increasingly critical role in advancing oncology innovation, and I’m confident that under Nathan’s leadership, the company will continue to shape the future of cancer research and care,” said Thomas Schinecker, CEO of Roche.
