Event preview: ISPOR Real-World Evidence Summit 2025

The ISPOR Real-World Evidence Summit 2025 will bring together global experts in health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) to explore how real-world evidence (RWE) is shaping healthcare across the Asia Pacific region.
Having identified RWE as one of its Top 10 HEOR Trends for 2024–2025, ISPOR—The Professional Society for Health Economics and Outcomes Research will host the ISPOR Real-World Evidence Summit 2025 in Tokyo, Japan, from September 28 – 30, 2025.
Under the theme “Through the Lens of Asia Pacific,” the 3-day summit will offer a dedicated forum to advance the use of RWE across the region. The summit aims to provide a platform for advancing RWE practice in the region. bringing together researchers, regulators, policymakers, and industry leaders to share insights and identify practical solutions to real-world healthcare challenges.

Plenary sessions: regional perspectives and global relevance
The summit’s opening plenary, “Realizing RWE Potential in Asia Pacific,” will explore the evolving role of RWE across countries at different stages of adoption. Moderated by Fei-Yuan Sharon Hsiao (National Taiwan University), the session will examine how RWE is supporting regulatory decision-making, market access, and clinical practice, while addressing persistent challenges such as data quality, interoperability, and bias.
In “Building the Future: Advancing Real-World Evidence in Asia Pacific and Beyond,” panelists will consider how RWE can be more effectively embedded into healthcare decision-making across the region. Led by Paul Scuffham (Griffith University), the discussion will touch on AI integration, regulatory harmonization, and the development of standardized methods for using RWE at scale.
Program highlights: translating data into action
The summit program will feature a combination of issue panels, workshops, breakout sessions, and spotlight talks, covering a broad range of topics across the RWE landscape. Sessions will explore how RWE is being used to inform policy and pricing decisions, with comparative insights from countries such as China, Japan, and the US. Discussions will also examine how APAC countries are integrating RWE into health technology assessment frameworks – highlighting national approaches, value assessment strategies, and lessons from recent evaluations of medical technologies.
Another key focus of the program will be the infrastructure and methods needed to scale RWE across Asia Pacific. Sessions will cover advances in data interoperability, the adoption of the OMOP Common Data Model, and the application of AI and big data analytics in evidence generation. Attendees can also expect to hear case studies from multinational research collaborations and explore opportunities for greater cross-regional alignment.
