VIDEO: Understanding GLOBE and GUARD in most-favored-nation pricing with Tim Wright, Genesis Research Group

Most-favored-nation (MFN) pricing requires manufacturers to provide rebates when US drug prices exceed those in selected reference countries. The approach is intended to address the persistent gap between US drug prices and those in other developed markets. By linking US prices to international benchmarks, MFN pricing introduces significant uncertainty for manufacturers as policymakers consider multiple models and implementation pathways. Understanding how these policies are structured and how they may be applied in practice is critical for manufacturers seeking to anticipate pricing risk and plan accordingly.
Building on the earlier video in this series, where Tim Wright, Executive Vice President for Access and Pricing at Genesis Research Group, examined the MFN debate and its relationship with the GENEROUS Model and the Inflation Reduction Act, this video focuses on the newly introduced mandatory MFN models GLOBE (Global Benchmark for Efficient Drug Pricing) and GUARD (Guarding US Medicare Against Rising Drug Costs). Wright outlines what these models entail, how they interact with existing pricing initiatives, and what they could mean for global pricing strategies.
