Journal of Comparative Effectiveness Research announces updated Aims & Scope and new Editorial Board members

The Journal of Comparative Effectiveness Research (JCER) is pleased to announce two important developments that reflect our continued commitment to advancing the field of healthcare research.
Updated Aims & Scope to reflect the evolving HEOR and RWE landscape
As part of its ongoing effort to stay at the forefront of comparative effectiveness and healthcare research, JCER has expanded and updated its Aims & Scope. This revision reflects the evolving landscape of health economics and outcomes research (HEOR), as well as healthcare decision-making more broadly.
The updated scope now includes a more comprehensive focus on the integration of HEOR and real-world evidence (RWE) throughout the healthcare product development lifecycle, from establishing burden of illness and unmet patient needs, to underpinning market access and value-based healthcare decision-making. There is also a focus on the growing availability of health data, with the accompanying methodological, legal and ethical challenges this presents.
With comparative effectiveness at its core, JCER provides a platform for cross-sector collaboration, presenting new findings and fostering discussion and debate. With this update, the JCER editorial team encourages the submission of innovative research that addresses the challenges and opportunities of modern healthcare.
New Editorial Board Members
JCER is also excited to introduce several distinguished experts to its Editorial Board. These new members bring diverse perspectives and a wealth of experience in RWE, health technology assessment and market access. Their expertise will help strengthen the editorial processes of JCER and ensure that the journal continues to publish high-quality, impactful research.

Support for JCER from our new Editorial Board members
The newly appointed Editorial Board members offered their thoughts on joining JCER at this significant time for the journal and the field of comparative effectiveness research.
Sreeram Ramagopalan (King’s College London, UK)
“I am honoured to join the editorial board of JCER at this pivotal time when real-world evidence is increasingly shaping healthcare decisions. As the field continues to evolve with growing data availability and new analytical approaches, I'm excited to help JCER remain at the forefront of publishing innovative research that directly impacts patient outcomes and healthcare policy.”
Ashley Jaksa (Aetion, USA)
“Advancing real-world evidence means investing in the methods that make it reliable—and demonstrating its value where decisions are made. I’m honored to join the JCER Editorial Board to help strengthen the science behind RWE and support its responsible use across the product development lifecycle. The more we build trust in how RWE is generated and applied, the more routine—and essential—it becomes in shaping the future of medicine.”
James Signorovitch (Analysis Group, Inc., USA)
“The integration of HEOR and real-world evidence throughout the healthcare development lifecycle is essential to advancing patient-centered innovation. I am honored to join JCER’s Editorial Board as the journal continues to lead and help shape the future of comparative effectiveness research.”
Tim Disher (Sandpiper Analytics, Canada)
“JCER's comprehensive focus on the integration of HEOR and real-world evidence is critical. I'm excited to join the Board and contribute to a journal so strategically positioned to shape modern healthcare decision-making through relevant and methodologically rigorous comparative effectiveness research.”
Melvin "Skip" Olson (Olson Strategies GmbH, Switzerland)
“The expansion of the Aims & Scope really reflects the realities of healthcare decision making while staying true to its core of comparative effectiveness and I’m honored to join the Editorial Board.”
Kimberly Westrich (National Pharmaceutical Council, USA)
“Since its inception in 2012, I have valued reading and contributing to the Journal of Comparative Effectiveness Research. Research and evidence play a critical role in helping decision-makers understand the value of patient access to innovative medicines. I look forward to supporting the Journal's important role in the modern HEOR and decision-making ecosystem as a member of the Editorial Board.”
We are confident that these updates to our Aims & Scope, along with the addition of our new Editorial Board members, will enhance the journal's ability to serve the healthcare community and further solidify JCER as a leading journal in the field of comparative effectiveness research. These changes will allow us to remain relevant to the modern era of HEOR and healthcare decision-making, enabling us to cover the broader range of specialties that interlink and collaborate in this space. The editorial team looks forward to engaging with researchers, policymakers and industry professionals as we continue to evolve and expand the journal.
