Evidation and 1upHealth collaborate to expand real-world data utilization in health research

  • Katie McCool

Evidation and 1upHealth will work together to enhance real-world data (RWD) sharing in health research, enabling individuals to consent to share health records seamlessly.

Evidation and 1upHealth have partnered to expand the use of RWD in health research by enabling easier consent and sharing of diverse health data. The collaboration will allow individuals to share their health record data with researchers, combining it with RWD from various sources, including wearable device metrics, validated surveys, and symptom diaries. This integration aims to provide a more holistic view of patient experiences and outcomes.

Evidation, known for developing innovative ways to measure and improve everyday health, will integrate 1upHealth’s Patient Connect platform into its research offerings. Patient Connect provides secure, real-time access to clinical and claims data through FHIR® APIs, enabling individuals to share their health records directly from electronic health records (EHRs) and claims systems. With patient consent, the data is automatically ingested in a standardized format, removing the need for manual chart retrieval, self-reporting, and custom integrations. This streamlined data integration allows researchers to combine clinical data with other real-world sources, offering a more comprehensive view of health outcomes across diverse populations.

Leslie Oley Wilberforce, President of Evidation, highlighted the significance of this collaboration in providing researchers with unprecedented access to linked health records and everyday health data.

“This collaboration creates an opportunity for patient-mediated data sharing that combines diverse types of real-world data for researchers to deeply characterize and better understand the health of individuals. Importantly, both Evidation and 1upHealth deeply value transparency and prioritizing patient control of their health data.”

1upHealth’s HITRUST i1 Certified FHIR® platform ensures that data is standardized for easy sharing and analysis, eliminating the need for time-consuming data normalization. “We’re proud to partner with Evidation to create new ways to advance health research together,” said Nolan Kelly, 1upHealth’s Chief Customer Officer. “We want to live in a world where an individual can access and share their own health data for critical health research. Evidation is leading the charge here.”
