Understanding provider perspectives and real-world implications of clinical trial data: the DREAMM-7 trial results in multiple myeloma

Translating Clinical Trial Evidence into Practice: The Value of Provider Perspectives
Understanding how clinical trial results translate into real-world practice requires more than efficacy data alone. Provider perspectives offer critical insights into how treatments are used day to day, helping to identify opportunities to refine guidance, improve clinical workflows, and ultimately support better patient outcomes.
Belantamab mafodotin (belantamab) presents a timely example. Initially approved in 2020 as a monotherapy, it was withdrawn from the market in 2022 after a Phase 3 trial failed to meet its primary endpoint. However, new data from the DREAMM-7 trial show promising results when belantamab is used in combination therapy. While the trial demonstrated encouraging efficacy, it also reaffirmed a distinct toxicity profile, primarily involving ocular side effects. With this new evidence, key questions emerge: are providers now more open to using belantamab, and how do they view its potential role in clinical practice given the updated benefit-risk profile?
In this Peek Behind the Poster, we speak with Sarah Lucht (Senior Scientist – Real-World Evidence & Insights, Cardinal Health) about the poster, entitled “Provider perspectives on the DREAMM-7 Trial Results and Belantamab Mafodotin (belamaf) in Combination with Bortezomib and Dexamethasone (B-Vd) as a Potential Treatment for Patients with Relapsed or Refractory Multiple Myeloma (R/R MM)” presented at ISPOR 2025. The discussion highlights why provider insights are critical for translating clinical breakthroughs into real-world patient access.
