Researchers are increasingly expected to share findings in ways that are rigorous, accessible, and easy to engage with. In a fast-paced digital environment, readers want a quicker route into the key messages, while still having the option to explore the full paper in depth. To support authors in extending the reach and impact of their work, the Journal of Comparative Effectiveness Research is introducing a new feature: Video Snapshots.

A Video Snapshot is a short, narrated explainer video, typically 2–5 minutes, that walks viewers through the main takeaways of an article in a clear, engaging format. Created using Transpose™, the proprietary AI technology from LCP Health Analytics, Video Snapshots offer a distinctive and shareable way to present research, helping make your work easier to discover and quicker to understand.

As Laura Dormer, Editor of the Journal of Comparative Effectiveness Research, explains: “Personally, I see Video Snapshots as an ideal way to synthesize a journal article into its key messages. It gives authors a clear, accessible format to help readers grasp the ‘why it matters’ in just a few minutes.”

Evidence suggests that articles accompanied by video abstracts are associated with higher visibility and, in some studies, higher citation counts. Research also suggests readers report higher perceived understanding when an article is accompanied by a video summary, supporting the idea that video can add value by improving engagement and helping results travel further beyond traditional readership.

Video Snapshots, created using Transpose™, are designed to give audiences a more flexible way to engage with research content. The video provides a clear walkthrough of the key findings, while also supporting various levels of length and detail so readers can choose the depth that best suits their needs and time. Importantly, authors retain full editorial control throughout the Video Snapshot process, with the opportunity to review and approve both the script and the final video to ensure accuracy and alignment with the published article. This approach combines AI-supported production with “human at the helm” author review to ensure the final output remains accurate, credible, and consistent with the published work.

Video Snapshots sit prominently at the beginning of the article, above the abstract, giving readers an immediate entry point into the research. They can also support accessibility by engaging visual and audio learners and by helping reduce barriers to understanding for a wider range of audiences. Multilingual capabilities provide an additional opportunity to extend global reach and enable broader dissemination across regions and stakeholder groups.

A published example can be seen alongside this article: Generalized cost–effectiveness analysis: charting a path forward for measuring the societal value of medical technologies.

Beyond the journal, Video Snapshots can also support content published on The Evidence Base, including Expert Insight interviews, Deep Dives, Editorials, and Guest Columns. For contributors and partners, this creates an additional way to package high-value content into a concise walkthrough that is easier to share on professional channels and easier for audiences to engage with quickly.

If you are preparing a new submission and would like to include a Video Snapshot, or if you are interested in adding one to an article that has already been published, please get in touch with Laura Dormer to discuss options and timelines.
