Elsan partners with Promptly Health to advance real-world data research and support the European Health Data Space

Elsan has joined Promptly Health’s European data network in a partnership designed to expand real-world data (RWD) use, support implementation of the European Health Data Space (EHDS), and strengthen infectious disease monitoring through AI-powered federated research.
Elsan, France’s largest private hospital group, is expanding its digital health capabilities through this collaboration to improve access to clinical data and strengthen interoperability. With more than 200 hospitals and clinics treating over five million patients annually, Elsan will build on its Health Data Hub, operational since late 2024 and supported by France 2030 funding, by deploying a secure, research-grade platform aligned with international standards such as the OMOP Common Data Model and the objectives of the EHDS.
By joining Promptly Health’s federated network, which spans about 25 partners and 250 hospitals across Portugal, Spain and the UK and covers approximately 35 million lives, Elsan adds important French representation to a growing European health data ecosystem. The federated approach allows research and AI development to take place where the data is stored, supporting regulatory compliance and safeguarding patient confidentiality.
“ELSAN’s data leadership is a turning point for research and innovation in France, and we are extremely proud to be welcoming the Group to our growing European Data Network,” said Pedro Ramos, CEO of Promptly Health. “Through this partnership, we are building the foundation needed to deliver real-world evidence to support the next era of medical innovation for both French and European medical communities.”
The first initiative under the partnership will be the creation of a European infectious disease observatory using the TrustED platform, developed as part of the Horizon Europe research and innovation program. TrustED applies federated learning technology to develop AI models designed to predict future waves of triple pandemics, including COVID-19, influenza, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Samantha Pasdeloup, Head of Data Development at Elsan, explained:
“The COVID-19 pandemic reminded us of the vital importance of sharing structured data to accelerate epidemiological monitoring and infectious disease research. This partnership with Promptly Health allows ELSAN to join a European network of hospital stakeholders and take an active role in shaping the European Health Data Space.”
As France moves toward EHDS implementation, the collaboration between Elsan and Promptly illustrates how healthcare providers can participate in developing a pan-European system for secure and interoperable data use. By combining Elsan’s national clinical footprint with Promptly’s federated network, the partnership aims to support the generation of real-world evidence (RWE) in a way that aligns with regulatory requirements and facilitates research that may benefit patients across Europe.
