COTA and Guardant Health partner to advance cancer therapies with real-world data

COTA and Guardant Health have announced a collaboration to leverage real-world data (RWD) and clinicogenomics to advance precision oncology.
COTA, Inc., a leader in RWD and oncology analytics, will work with precision oncology company Guardant Health, Inc. to accelerate the development of targeted cancer therapies. The announcement highlights that by integrating COTA's research-grade electronic health record (EHR) data with Guardant's clinicogenomic testing data and AI-powered analytics, the collaboration will provide biopharmaceutical researchers with robust tools to advance oncology research and enhance therapy development.
The integration of these datasets will enable researchers to analyze correlations between molecular biomarkers, treatment decisions, and clinical outcomes. The partnership also provides critical longitudinal serial testing data, supporting more precise drug development, and expanding insights into how diverse patient populations respond to therapies.
Dr CK Wang, Chief Medical Officer at COTA, stated:
“Clinicogenomic data empowers research scientists to test hypotheses by studying patient genomic profiles and real-world outcomes to guide the development of targeted therapies that can be used to personalize treatment for each cancer patient. Connecting Guardant’s data to COTA’s in-depth, real-world oncology data assets will also allow researchers to anticipate treatment responses and accelerate drug development for existing and new population segments.”
Guardant Health’s datasets provide insights across all stages of disease, from initial tumor profiling to recurrence monitoring and therapy response evaluation. COTA’s curated data complements these resources by tracking the full cancer care journey across academic and community settings. Together, the collaboration enhances research on solid tumors, including lung, breast, and colorectal cancers, creating a comprehensive and diverse dataset to support patient-centered care and precision oncology advancements.
This collaboration is particularly significant in addressing the challenges of cancer drug development, where clinical trials have a failure rate of 97% and the process can take up to 15 years. To address these challenges, life sciences organizations are increasingly investing in multi-modal datasets including clinicogenomics. These resources enable biomarker discovery, clinical trial refinement, and faster regulatory approvals, ultimately helping to deliver life-saving treatments to patients more efficiently.
Craig Eagle (Chief Medical Officer, Guardant Health) emphasized the significance of this partnership: "The RWD partnership with COTA marks another milestone in our mission to conquer cancer with data. Giving biopharmaceutical researchers the ability to connect detailed information about tumor biology and therapy response with real-world patient outcome data will expedite the discovery of new biomarker-based therapies for patients and make the drug development process more economical as well."
