Briya has announced a new collaboration with Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza, one of Italy’s top research hospitals, to improve access to high-quality real-world data (RWD) in the region.

Aiming to address a persistent challenge in European medical research, accessing high-quality RWD, healthcare data retrieval network Briya has announced a new research partnership in the region. In collaboration with Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza, one of Italy’s leading hospitals, the alliance will grant Briya access to RWD from over 200,000 patients treated at the hospital each year.

While RWD is essential for advancing medical innovation, access to high-quality European datasets remains complex. The forthcoming European Health Data Space (EHDS) regulation aims to improve this, but meaningful results will take time. Whilst the framework for secondary use of data becomes established, partnerships like this can help accelerate progress by enabling global researchers to integrate diverse Italian datasets into real-world evidence (RWE) studies, enhancing inclusion, refining clinical insights, and improving patient outcomes.

Briya seeks to leverage the insights gained to bridge the gap between European data sources and global researchers, further shaping the future of RWE generation and ensuring a more accurate and inclusive representation of the global population. Its platform ensures compliance with all local and global data protection regulations, including the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), while offering secure and efficient access to European RWD.

Commenting on the partnership, David Lazerson, Co-Founder and CEO of Briya, said: "We are thrilled to partner with Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza. Their commitment to excel both in patient care and research aligns perfectly with our mission to accelerate innovation through data. This partnership paves the way for increased ex-US RWD use, which is still in its infancy."

Dr Gino Gumirato, CEO of Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza added: “Working with Briya gives us a unique opportunity to securely share and analyze data while contributing to groundbreaking discoveries. We are excited to lead the charge in enabling access to high-quality RWD from Italy.”
